Competitive Children
Sports are a big part of everyday life in America. Football, soccer, golf, tennis, and gymnastics- all of these sports are in the news every day. Seeing athletes perform on television causes some children to dream of being able to play professionally when they grow up. Children know that if they want to play a sport professionally, then they have to be good at that sport. What children do not understand, is how to become skilled at a sport. To understand how to become skilled children should get involved a competitive sport. Children should be involved in competitive sports at an early age because it teaches them how to be a team player, stay devoted to a team, and understand the importance of practice.
If a parent allows his or her child to play a competitive sport, then the child will learn how to become a team player. Becoming part of a team will help children bond with others their own age. The team will spend a lot of time together when they practice and play its games together. When children bond with the other children on the team, they will become more outgoing and learn to help each other succeed. Being a team player is a valuable skill that will help them in life as adults. As adults, they will be expected to work together with coworkers in the future.
However, being a team player is not the only way being in a competitive sport can influence children; they will learn how to stay devoted to a team. Children in competitive sports will grow to love his or her teammates like they are family. They will learn to stay loyal to their team and teammates. Having a loyal team will give the children the support they need to succeed in their sport. Being loyal to their teammates could create lifetime friendships and unforgettable memories.
Lastly, children begin to understand the importance of practice. The most important key to success is practice. Practice is the only way to improve skills, no matter how old. Determination is also required in order to become more skilled at a sport. Children have to put in effort if they want to succeed. Certainly children being in competitive sports can be time consuming and a commitment for both the children and the parents. However, practice time with their team will teach them that to achieve goals, no matter what age, it takes a lot of time and practice.
Being a team player, being devoted to a team, and understanding the importance of practice- these are the skills children involved in competitive sports from a young age can learn. Children can only learn these skills if their parents allow them to participate in sports. Parents should encourage their children to be in competitive sports so they have the opportunity to learn these important skills. If parents want their child’s dream to one day be a professional athlete like they see on television come true, then they should allow the child to join a competitive sport.
